Graphology is the study of handwriting, the analysis of which is used to determine the characteristics, traits and behaviours that are present in our personality and make us who we are.

It is a social science that has been forged from a long and honourable history that, like all such sciences, depends on extensive research, observation  and classification of samples and findings.

Whilst most of us use the hand to write with, it is actually the brain that is controlling the whole procedure by processing our thoughts, feelings or ideas and channeling those responses down to the page via the pen.

So, these movements that we make to accomplish the written word are governed by the central nervous system and as such are largely unconscious and therefore, revealing.

Just as every one of us is a unique being made up of many contributing factors, so too is our handwriting. It evolves with us from the time at school when we first learned how to make these marks, to the writing that we have now. And just as we have grown up developing our own individuality, style and character, our writing has evolved likewise.

Handwriting is the smallest movement of the human hand, consisting of minute movements flying around in all directions - vertical, horizontal, curving, straight, diagonal, and with varying degrees of pressure, speed, continuity and dimension.
Because no one sign stands alone in graphology, a graphologist must measure, record and collate all these movements in order to interpret how they build and interact with each other. All signs or traits only have value when constant and repetitive, and may have positive or negative influences on each other.
